Page Categories for Shopify

Page Categories help you get information about different types of pages on your site. Many of Yottaa's dashboards track your site's performance by looking at how different page categories perform. Out of the box, Yottaa has set up the following page categories:

  • Home

  • Product Category

  • Product Detail

  • Order Confirmation

Page categories appear on various dashboards, including Traffic and Performance.

The Traffic dashboard shows you what types of pages shoppers are viewing the most.

The example above uses different page categories than what Yottaa provides automatically. You can add or edit page categories in Settings > Page Categories.

Here is the setup Yottaa automatically provides to Shopify users:

Page Categories are usually defined by part of the URL. In the setup above, for example, the Product Category page URLs all contain the word "collections."

You can edit page categories by clicking .

Page Categories Order

In Settings > Page Categories, the order in which the page categories appear in the list matters only when you have multiple page categories that contain the same words in the URL.

For example, in some cases Shopify product detail pages contain the word "collections" in the URL, as in www.mysite.com/collections/shoes/products/loafers. If the site owner moves Product Category above Product Detail in the list, Yottaa will not categorize any pages as product detail pages. That's because Yottaa searches for page categories in the order in which they appear on the Page Categories settings page. If it finds the word "collections" in the product details pages, it will classify those pages as Product Category pages. However, if the Product Detail page category appears first, Yottaa will first search for the word "product," and classify those pages appropriately.

To avoid this problem, when you have two page categories with overlapping URLs, always put the more complicated URL first.
